Inspiration rebreather
Inspiration CCR is produced by Ambient Pressure Diving in Great Britain. It is the world's undisputed champion of fully closed rebreathers, with 5000-6000 units in use world wide.
It's an electronically controlled CCR
(ECCR), which means that the monitoring and replenishment of oxygen is done by an onboard computer. In more practical terms, the monitoring of the oxygen percentage is done by three oxygen sensors which are presented for the diver in the two identical handsets. Here the diver can programme the wanted PO2 (so called set point). If the oxygen percentage in the breathing loop drops under the set point, the CCR will burst oxygen into the loop through the solenoid. This is repeated until the set point and loop content is in harmony. When the diver reaches the depth, the CCR will maintain the set point within the second decimal. You can compare this to a continuous flow mixer panel that you bring with you under water that constantly varies the fraction of oxygen in the loop to maintain constant PO2 (see diagram). The unit can at all times be overwritten manually or dived as a semi closed unit, should something go wrong with the electronics.
