The next project was to take a
cheap electric
log splitter modify it to work the cylinder. Actually this
turned out to be quite simple. Kim Heigren modified his prototype several
times before ending up with the model on the picture. This one was the
second build, and it took us around 4-5 hours.
The booster
is 230V electric and the cylinder is operated manually for every pump, by
pressing two handles down (no hassle just the press of two fingers). It is
made out of a 5 ton wood cleaver, a hydraulic cylinder, a 30 mm stick, and a
few hoses and fittings. The total cost is around 600$. The speed of the
booster is around 8-9
sec./pump, regardless of pressure. The actual amount of gas delivered is of
cause depending on the feed pressure.
