Latest Booster Model - "The Heigren Log Splitter"

The next project was to take a cheap electric log splitter modify it to work the cylinder. Actually this turned out to be quite simple. Kim Heigren modified his prototype several times before ending up with the model on the picture. This one was the second build, and it took us around 4-5 hours. The booster is 230V electric and the cylinder is operated manually for every pump, by pressing two handles down (no hassle just the press of two fingers). It is made out of a 5 ton wood cleaver, a hydraulic cylinder, a 30 mm stick, and a few hoses and fittings. The total cost is around 600$. The speed of the booster is around 8-9 sec./pump, regardless of pressure. The actual amount of gas delivered is of cause depending on the feed pressure.

With 60-70 bars on the 50 litre feed tank it will push around 5 bars on a 3 litre tank per pump. Heat is generally developed on the block that holds the two hoses, between the two NRVs (no return valves). It will get hot after pumping i.e. a 3 litre tank with oxygen. You can find more pictures in the gallery section.
All credits for idea, design and creation of "The Log Splitter" goes to my good friend and dive buddy Kim Heigren.
